STAY INFORMED. STAY CONNECTED.
These are trying times, especially for those of use caring for children with health conditions that may put them at increased risk for complications of Covid-19. Its important to stay informed and stay connected.
INFORMED, PREPARED, AND PREVENTION
So like most caregiver mamas I like to be as informed as possible so I can be proactive around taking care of my child. I believe data empowers us to choose our actions and to live with intention. So, I have been reviewing studies published by the CDC and WHO - and also listening to recorded grand rounds and other resources from the medical doctors on the front lines of the Covid-19 response. I want to my part to stay informed and flatten the curve - so I am sharing information based in research.
I am a mama worried about some key resources -- N-95 masks
We use N-95 masks pretty regularly to protect my daughter from pathogens, because immunosuppressants, viruses, and bacteria are a terrible combo. I wear them so as to not infect her when I am sick and ask others to do the same. We usually keep two masks per family member at all times (a set in the car and a set in the house). We tend to buy more as needed. Well- as we all know that is no longer possible.
I am also really worried about her medical team, the nurses who care for her so well, and other providers on the front lines not having access to masks and PPEs.
So I started researching how we can maximize our N-95s. I have no idea if this will work - consult your medical provider and know that these are strategies I am looking into for my own family. Just thought I would share.
